ment, and we raise our warmest wishes to the young bride and groom for a long life over which happiness spreads its wings, and in which an ever-renewing love prevails.
• The Nusur Foundation on Bliss Street in Ras Beirut has done abundant service to culture and to art. Its service to art comes by way of the permanent exhibitions it organizes at its club, acquainting the foundation's patrons with the various branches of art, and encouraging artists — and the rising ones among them in particular — to cut their way along art's thorny path. This year it has begun a series of exhibitions on "Photography as an Art," and in the second half of January it showed pictures by the artist Miss Wentz.
As for the activity of the cultural committee of the Nusur Foundation, headed by Miss Leila Lababidi, it has never ceased working to present the finest literary talents. On the night of the nineteenth of last month, the club was packed with listeners come to hear Miss Samira Azzam, supervisor of the women's program at the Near East Arab Broadcasting Station, present an evening of stories of her own composition.
Miss Samira Azzam read three stories, and succeeded, as she wished, in carrying the audience into her own atmosphere, soaring in her psychological analysis, in the excellence of her delivery, and in the grace of her phrasing — so much so that the two-thirds of an hour seemed sweet moments, passing swiftly between a smile of delight and the wiping away of a tear that welled in the eye.
Miss Samira Azzam has a future in the world of the story — she has already published a book of them, "Little Things," and another book is in press ...
• How universal is its bounty, how abundant its giving — the tree of life! Every day, and without tiring, it never ceases to present us with sweet buds that are the flowers of hope for our tomorrow!
The first of these dewy buds is "Randa," firstborn of Mrs. Aida and Mr. Tawfiq Assaf. The delivery took place on January 18, at the hands of Dr. Mustafa Khalidi, in his hospital in Ras Beirut... All that can be made out so far in little "Randa" is that she is packed with health... and sweet!
And the second bud is "Youssef," firstborn of Mrs. Maggie and Dr. Kamal al-Hajj — he looked out upon our world on January 19 at Dr. Rizk's hospital — and he was named "Youssef" after the Doctor's father. Among his traits today... he is lively... and
greedy at the breast... hurrying the days along so as to become "a man"!
The Woman's Voice, which counts the parents of the two buds, Randa and Youssef, among its dearest friends, offers with affection its warmest congratulations and good wishes.
• At the invitation of the National Library in Aleppo, headed by Mr. Sami al-Kayyali, Dr. Zahia Kaddoura, president of the Federation of University Women, went to Syria and lectured on the 21st of this month on "Warring Group Loyalties Through Our History" — a historical study of the development of the various group loyalties, tribal, sectarian, and racial, from the Jahili age down to modern times...
