Among the beliefs of this (divine religion) is that the obscurity that dominates created beings has its source in the evil spirit, which overwhelmed the understandings and made creation lose its essential bond with the Creator. —
But the sages knew with certain knowledge that the (original Spirit) would descend upon the earth anew, a resident and honored guest.
This is God's reckoning with the world. —
And we observe in the modern religious rites traces of these ancient beliefs, such as the "Saturday of Light" among the Christians, and the well-known saying among the Muslims: "Glory be to Him who made reason a light for us," and the meaning of "the Mind" among the Druze. —
For reason and light are twins in them, a pillar upon which all beliefs are propped. —
It is said, too, that the world is not the work of the hand but the work of the Word. —
And in the beginning was the Word... in the phrase of St. John the Evangelist.
Thus we see that the doctrines by whose grace man penetrates to the heart of eternal reality are all bound to the mystery of birth. —
Remember, then, and work with your thought. —
For knowledge is remembrance, and ignorance is forgetting.
