May God keep them both, two green saplings in that fine family..

• On February 13 Mrs. Samira, wife of Mr. Adib Sarkis, gave birth to a boy, whom they named "Pierre" — the delivery took place at the hospital of the American University of Beirut, and the happy mother came through with Pierre in perfect health — to the family our warm congratulations.

• The salon of Mrs. Wadia Khartabil, president of the Palestinian Women's Union, was crowded on Wednesday, February 10, with upwards of sixty ladies and young ladies, gathering diplomatic personalities, Arab and foreign, and the leaders of the women's renaissance in Lebanon.

As for the purpose of the invitation, it was courtesy, and then to make known to the foreign ladies that there is such a thing as the Palestine question, which is of very great gravity, and that there is such a thing as women's awareness, working with understanding on behalf of a human cause wounded to its very heart — a cause the Westerners have wronged most grievously.

The conversations went on informally around the sumptuous buffet, in an atmosphere of affection and courtesy, and the guests thanked Mrs. Khartabil for affording them this happy opportunity.

• The patrons of the Nusour institution flocked in on Wednesday, February 16, to hear a lecture delivered by Mrs. Loreen S. Rihani, president of the Village Welfare Society, on the subject of "The Project for the Revival of the Countryside." Mrs. Rihani succeeded in drawing charming pictures representing the life of the countryside in our land, calling attention to the dangers that threaten the countryside should migration to the cities continue as it is. She then set forth some practical means of reviving this countryside by directing and encouraging its working hands, through what the members of the society are practically doing — the lecture ended with a useful

discussion in which the audience took part — and in the next issue we shall print a summary of Mrs. Rihani's lecture, that its benefit may be spread abroad.

• There was recently opened, at a splendid ceremony, the permanent exhibition of ready-made clothing for women and children, prepared by the Association for Securing Employment for Refugees through the energy of its active members, at their head Mrs. Nazik al-Abid Beyhum — the ceremony was

under the patronage of the great benefactress Mrs. Shafiqa Diab — at which the president, Mrs. Beyhum, delivered a graceful word of thanks; and the demand for purchases was great, which led those responsible to feel optimistic and assured as to the results.

• On Wednesday, February 10, at the invitation of the "University Women's Union," Mr. Fuad Sarruf delivered a fascinating lecture on the subject "Science: Power and Value."
