The bride of His Majesty King Hussein

The Wedding of His Majesty King Hussein

Amman rejoiced and exulted, and put on its loveliest adornments, on the 19th of last April, on the occasion of the wedding of its young Majesty to the Emira Dina Abdul Hamid.

The wedding ceremony took place at Raghadan Palace in the presence of the Queen Mother, King Faisal II, and the members of the royal family.

Queen Dina, in her white gown embroidered with threads of silver, appeared at the most radiant and splendid that brides can be. And the crowds massed along the two sides of the road leading to the palace cheered long for the lives of the two sovereigns..

The bride's dress, which was designed by the house of Schuberth in Italy, had a train three meters long, carried by twelve maids of honor in their white dresses, with bouquets of carnations in their hands — while the Queen's bouquet of flowers was of rare white lilies. On her head was the royal crown set with diamonds, on her breast the Order of the Renaissance, and on her finger a ring adorned with a matchless brilliant.

When Her Majesty reached the middle of the great hall, the King came toward her and took her hand, and they mounted the staircase to the throne room, while the Queen Mother began scattering over them and over those around them gold pieces the size of half an Ottoman lira, bearing on one face the royal crown and on the other face the two letters "H" and "D," the first letters of the names of the two sovereigns. And when they reached the throne room they began receiving the congratulations of the guests.

At ten o'clock at night the King and Queen went down to the dining hall to attend the supper, and in the middle of the table stood the wedding cake, two meters in height. After supper the royal pair left Raghadan Palace for Basman Palace to attend the evening party, enlivened by the musician Farid al-Atrash, which lasted until two o'clock in the morning; and fireworks kept rising from before the royal palaces, bearing the people's greetings and congratulations.

So the family of "The Woman's Voice" joins its voice to the voices raised in prayer and supplication for the happiness of the two young sovereigns and for the prosperity of the brotherly Jordanian people in the new era...
