Combating Prostitution

مكافحة البغاء

Prostitution is a social disease that wreaks terrible havoc upon the morals and the health of the rising generation.

A group of ladies and gentlemen saw that this disease is developing in a manner dangerous to health and morals, and so they formed an association under the name of "The Association for Combating Prostitution" — headed by Mohammad Jamil Beyhum, with the following ladies and gentlemen as members: Adelaide Richani, Nazik Sarkis, Dr. Zaki Shakhashiri, Dr. Shaghlasian, Camille Howayek, Imad al-Solh, Elie Mokarzel, Abdullah Nurallah, Edmond Naim, Mohammad Beyhum. Its aim is to demand the abolition of licensed prostitution, to combat clandestine prostitution, and to take effective measures to protect Lebanese society from prostitution and to remedy it.

After study, they drew up a program to be carried out in stages, leading to the result for which the association was formed.

A delegation from the association — headed by Mohammad Jamil Beyhum — called upon the Prime Minister and submitted to him the following proposals:

1 - Moving the houses of prostitution outside the city until abolition is accomplished.

2 - Engaging a social expert in the morals bureau attached to the police directorate.

3 - Refusing to accept new applications for licenses to open new houses among the public houses.

4 - Refusing to accept new applications for girls to enter the public houses.

The head of the government promised to study these proposals in the Council of Ministers and to work toward carrying them out.

And as we present "The Association for Combating Prostitution" to the noble Lebanese people, we are assured of the backing and help of every individual who cares for the health and morals of the rising generation.
