The Society for the Protection of Lebanese Children

جمعية حماية الاطفال اللبنانيين

The Society for the Protection of Lebanese Children, attached to the Red Cross organization, held its annual ceremony at its school in Achrafieh under the patronage of the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun.

Mrs. Diana Ghantous Andraos opened the ceremony, welcoming those present, thanking the benefactors for their moral and material assistance, and praising the efforts made by Mrs. Malaki Haik, the former president, and Mrs. Alice Bardaweel, the current president, on behalf of this great humanitarian project. She gave special thanks to Mrs. Marie Siryani, the vice-president, for the activity she devotes to the society's cause. Then the children presented

some songs, dances, and poems that won the audience's admiration and applause.

Before the end of the ceremony Dr. Sadaqa delivered an address in which he noted the society's services and the efforts of Mrs. Malaki Haik, and said that the government had officially recognized her works, His Excellency the President of the Republic having awarded her the gilded Order of Education, first class. Then Her Ladyship Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun pinned the decoration on the breast of Mrs. Malaki Haik amid a storm of warm applause.

The House of Nightingales

The House of Nightingales is a modern institute for children in Damascus, following the most modern educational methods. Its realization is the work of Miss Mubina Quwatli, founder of the institute, a specialist in kindergartens who holds an M.A. degree in education and psychology.

The institute's pupils are of both sexes, and their ages range between five and twelve; besides the elementary classes, it includes a kindergarten of two classes.

In summer, the nightingales move to Syria's famous summer resort, Bloudan, where study grows brighter amid the airs of nature, as the pupils accustom themselves to a life of sport and tents and pass the summer without ever feeling bored.
