The Annual Meeting of the General Arab Women's Union

The General Arab Women's Union held its annual meeting in Beirut at the Capitol Hotel on the 30th and 31st of this past May 1955, with all its member bodies in attendance: the Jordanian, Syrian, Iraqi, Palestinian, Lebanese, and Egyptian Women's Unions.

The president, Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura, opened the meeting with an eloquent address in which she noted the Union's effective influence in Arab society and

the sincere services it can render as a contribution to the advancement of the Arab family. The reports of the women's unions in each Arab country were then read, and there was discussion of which resolutions of the 1954 congress had been carried out and which remained awaiting execution. New resolutions were also adopted, appealing to the Arab governments to unite their word and to work for the common public good out of concern for the interests of the Arab countries and their future; to create legislation severely punishing anyone who deals with Israel; to employ women in the field of foreign representation and at the United Nations; to send women delegates to international congresses, especially women's congresses; and to recognize woman's full political rights.
