Mrs. Widad Tayyara Anouti Decorated with the Gilded Order of Merit

• The hall of the Bristol was packed, on the evening of the nineteenth of July, with a chosen élite, come to attend the ceremony at which His Excellency the Prime Minister Sami al-Solh conferred the gilded Order of Merit upon Mrs. Widad Tayyara Anouti, at the invitation of the institutions in which she serves, namely: the Rescue of the Fallen, Securing Work for the Refugees of Palestine, the Lebanese Child-Welfare Society, the Young Muslim Women, and Child Care.

Rarely does opinion settle on a single view from which no one dissents, as opinions agreed in appreciation of the silent, fruitful work in which Mrs. Anouti has persevered, coveting neither glory nor name.. until there came the government's thanks and its recognition of her with the decoration; and a smile of gratitude glowed on every lip, and a throb of affection in every heart — and with what but love can love be repaid?!?

Perhaps the best introduction of Mrs. Anouti to the readers is the sweet word with which Mrs. Zahia Salman presented her at the opening of the ceremony, saying:

"Widad Anouti is one of those women from whom confidence in the Lebanese woman is drawn, after she moved, by the toil of her own right hand, from the margin of life into its very bosom, where man had long been waiting for her!

Widad Anouti is one of those women who

answered the call of their homes, their families, their motherhood, and their society all at once; and she has proved that woman is no longer a phantom among phantoms. She answered the calls of want and poverty, of ignorance and disease, and threw herself into the current of

duty wrapped in a mantle of lofty modesty — consoling this one, giving to that one and guiding her, and accepting her stumbles — with a heart whose humanity never runs dry, a soul whose nobility never withers, and a high resolve before which difficulties fall away.

Giving hands, however great and strong and silent they may be, doubtless find it sweet to be shaken in thanks, appreciation, and gratitude — and who has a better right than we, Widad's colleagues and her friends who labor in the charitable and social field, who better than we to stretch out our hands to clasp Widad's hand, congratulating her and proud of her!"

• Among the buds of this summer: "Imad," firstborn of the president of the Court of Cassation, Mr. Hassan Qublan. The birth took place in Aley on the 7th of last July, at Dr. Trad's hospital — and little Imad, with his mother, Mrs. Hayat, is flourishing in the fullness of health.

"The Woman's Voice" congratulates Mr. Hassan Qublan and his wife on their firstborn, with prayers for his health and good fortune... and, for the parents, a sweet bouquet of sons and daughters!
