Fouad Qasim Is Dead
مات فؤاد قاسم
A beloved face has passed from Lebanon: the late Mr. Fouad Qasim, head of the Lebanese Broadcasting Department, one of those educators renowned for culture and character, and a journalist whose star shone in the world of the press — he was among the few who understood journalism as sincere national service and a defense of right, dignity, and freedom.
Fouad Qasim was a whole world of youth, strength, proud dignity, and humility. Death took him by surprise on the eve of Lebanon's Independence Day, as he was preparing to join his colleagues and brethren in the joys of the holiday; but his soul would consent to nothing except to fly, a fragrant breath of perfume, to the wider expanse.
The deceased was appointed in 1946 an inspector in the Directorate of Propaganda, Publications, and Broadcasting, then head of the Propaganda Division, then head of the Broadcasting Department in the Ministry of Information; at every one of these stages he was the model of the man who knows his duties and appreciates his responsibilities, with a care and a devotion that made him the object of everyone's love and respect.
May God have mercy upon Fouad.
