Raising Your Child Costs... 26,000 Hours of Work!

Figures that seem sheer fantasy and illusion!
Yet in fact they are correct figures, recorded as the result of a precise scientific survey carried out by Dr. Wakli. Would that children knew the hardships their mothers endure... then they would be more grateful, and more dutiful to their parents!...

A family of average means spends 15% of its income between birth and the child's first year; 20% between the first year and the sixth; and 25–30% up to the years of maturity — this quite apart from the time parents devote to raising their children.

In the first year the child requires eight hours of his mother's time daily. From the first year to the sixth he requires six hours; from the sixth to the tenth, four hours; and three hours thereafter... So the total of the hours set aside for the child up to the age of eighteen comes to 25,915 hours, spent in attending to food, sleep, dressing, and washing; on outings, teaching, and putting things in order; on laundering and ironing clothes, and cooking —

And if we suppose the wage of a maid to be 150 piasters a day, the child has cost 38,872.50 liras — to which must be added medical care, schools, gifts, and amusements!
