News of the Associations and the Winter Parties

أخبار الجمعيات وحفلات الشتاء

• The Young Women's Christian Association has opened its financial campaign for 1956, its goal being to raise 25 thousand Lebanese lira — one third of the budget which the said Association needs in order to carry on its mighty works. It has great hope of realizing its hope through a thousand women members, working with one heart to reach their lofty aims. It has taken as its motto Gibran's saying:
"It is beautiful to give the one who asks you what he needs; but more beautiful than that is to give the one who does not ask you, when you know his need."

• ... With the coming of winter and the cold, woman bestirs herself to hold dances and other parties, in the hope of covering a deficit in her "social" budget, or of nourishing some project — and preparations have grown heated of late for two great parties set for the middle of this February. To the first, the Children's Welfare Society has issued invitations; it will be held in the hall of the Bristol on the afternoon of Friday, February 10, under the patronage of the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun.

And there are pleasant surprises: a fancy-dress contest for the children, and a lottery that the "Welfare" will bring out, organized by the president, Mrs. Ni'mat Qaranful, and her energetic colleagues.

• As for the second party, toward which all eyes are already turning, it is the tea dance which the Lebanese Women's League will give at the Capitol Hotel on the afternoon of Sunday, February 12, under the patronage of the Honorable Bernardo Flores, chargé d'affaires of the Venezuelan legation. The proceeds of the party will be set aside for the League's schools. Meetings have multiplied at the home of the president, Mrs. Heneni Tarcha, and the work has been divided among committees to attend to the organization of the party, and the details of the party's program have been drawn up. No doubt there will be surprises, prizes, and a lottery! In the next issue we shall bring our readers fuller details of these two parties, with our wishes for their dazzling success....
