little ones, then at the very least let them acquaint them with it through listening. The world's radio stations offer us fine classical music at every hour, and though our children may turn away from it at first, they will not be long in noticing its points of beauty, and so come to love it. Music is a wonderful thing, and our Arab homes must not be without it.

Musical recitals for the students:

The students of the "Ras Beirut Institute of Music and Drawing" are a charming cocktail! There is the American, the Englishman, the Frenchman, the Swiss, the Syrian, the Saudi, the Jordanian, the Lebanese, and others besides... They gather on Sunday afternoons in the institute's hall, invite their families and friends, and carry out a set musical program in which the students take part by turns; some introduce the instruments to those present; and the party ends with an invitation to a glass of drink and a piece of cake or two, so that the throat is refreshed after the taste has had its fill...

Mr. Salibi's aim in holding these family parties is

to accustom the little ones to playing before people without timidity or confusion, and to create a harmonious family atmosphere over which music presides...

The classical musical instruments:

The institute teaches playing on all the instruments of the classical orchestra — piano, violin, clarinet, flute, trumpet (the horn), cymbals, and the like — its aim being to guide the pupils toward harmony in an ensemble and cooperation in playing, so as to perfect the piece, however easy it may be... Heavens! What sheer delight the members of a single ensemble come to know! Especially when the players are members of one family!!

An amateur orchestra:

Alongside his great activity at the institute, Mr. Salibi is occupied with forming a classical musical ensemble of amateurs, to give musical recitals in the schools, taking care to select simple pieces that are easy to understand, and to lower the price of the ticket so that attendance comes within everyone's reach, and especially that of schoolchildren...
