From Last April's Art Exhibitions

The Ministry of National Education and Fine Arts is active at present in holding individual art exhibitions in preparation for the great spring exhibition now awaited, which this Ministry sponsors with keen solicitude, its constant practice being to encourage the arts and to stimulate the artists to create what is better and more beautiful.

Last month this Ministry issued invitations to two exhibitions. The first: the "Exhibition of Decorative Murals" by the artists Jean Picart Le Doux and Marc Saint-Saëns. It opened on Wednesday, April 11, at the UNESCO Palace under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Camille Chamoun.

As for the second exhibition, it is by the artist Von Moyden, and it too is of decorative murals, at the Zouk workshops. It opened under the patronage of the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun, on Tuesday, April 24 — at UNESCO.

The interest of artistic circles in Lebanon has been noted in this kind of decorative art for adorning walls, most of it in ceramic with harmonious colors and exquisite designs and lines.

It is, without doubt, a blessed artistic renaissance making its way in Lebanon. Blessed be the efforts of the Ministry of National Education and Fine Arts.

• A Night for the Fine Arts: held on the evening of Wednesday, April 25, in Irwin Hall at Beirut College for Women. The departments of music, art, and literature joined together in organizing its program.

The most notable feature of this evening was the art exhibition, which reflected the students' activities over a year, and their artistic works in painting, sculpture, and dress design.

The literature department also displayed two bulletins, for the winter and spring seasons.

It is only natural that an institution like Beirut College for Women should hum with liveliness and activity!!...
