Standing at the ready — The director of the School of Nursing places the "cap" on the head of one of the students — Christina Shtilian delivering her address

The Nursing School Ceremony

The School of Nursing at the American University of Beirut held its traditional annual ceremony at eight o'clock on the evening of Friday, the sixth of last April, in the assembly hall.

This celebration symbolizes the entry of the students — twenty-one in number — into the arena of nursing life, and marks their confirmation as nursing students.

Miss Elizabeth Moser, director of the School of Nursing, opened the ceremony. She was followed by Miss Daisy Bridges, executive secretary of the International Council of Nurses, with a general address on the mission of nursing. Then Miss Mary Somogyi, director of education at the School of Nursing, presented the students, and Miss Widad Hamdan, the class advisor, performed the lighting of the candles.

Finally Miss Christina Shtilian, president of the nursing students' society, spoke a gracious word in which she welcomed the new students, and the responsibilities that will fall upon their shoulders in the future.

An atmosphere of order and good arrangement prevailed over the ceremony.
