At Mrs. Aliya al-Saidi's party

Mrs. Aliya al-Saidi's Invitation

On the occasion of the return of the president of the Children's Welfare Society, Mrs. Zahia Salman, from the children's congress held in Paris, one of the society's members, Mrs. Aliya al-Saidi, gave a tea party in her honor on Wednesday afternoon, May 23. It was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Nazih al-Bizri, and the former minister, His Excellency Mr. Kazem al-Khalil, together with the Municipal Council and a number of journalists and members of the society.

It was a pleasant gathering, in which Mrs. Salman reviewed in a few sentences what she had seen and her impressions in France, calling for the establishment of public gardens and houses for children in Beirut and the Lebanese villages. Her appeal had the finest effect on the listeners, and especially on the concerned authorities, who showed every readiness to contribute to any children's project of this kind, acknowledging its importance in our present-day life.

Dr. Rosalie Ghabr Awdeh

Dr. Rosalie Awdeh was last month a guest of Lebanon, in the company of two American women physicians — all of them specialists in children — making a journey through England, Greece, Lebanon, and Iran, then Europe, and finally returning to New York.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Rosalie Awdeh, though born in the United States, is the child of parents from among the early emigrants, and she has in Lebanon an enormous number of relatives...

Besides her practice of medicine in her private clinic, Dr. Rosalie occupies a distinguished post as professor at the "New York Medical Institute and Hospital"; her husband, Mr. Elias Awdeh, is a shining notable among our compatriots in New York. And beside all this she enjoys an extraordinary intelligence, a lovely appearance, and a charming personality.

She stayed in Beirut as the guest of her cousin, Mrs. Eva Badr Malik, and her hostess accompa

nied her to Baalbek, the Cedars, Beiteddine, Damascus, and all the regions of the Mountain. Her delight in all she saw in her mother homeland knew no bounds...

Dr. Rosalie is a Lebanese woman's face in which we take pride. We shall return to speak of her in the coming issue.

An Engagement

In the course of the past month the engagement was concluded of Miss Hanina Kalfat, sister of our friend Elias Kalfat, to the young man of letters Wakim Shammas, at a pleasant family party that gathered kinsfolk and friends.

Awaiting the completion of the joyous occasion, we offer the engaged couple and their families our sincerest congratulations and best wishes.

Dr. Edma Abouchdid

Dr. Edma Abouchdid returned from Europe at the end of last May, after having officially represented Lebanon at the International Medical Congress on Sterility, held from the 18th to the 26th of the month. Fifty-two nations and 1,300 physicians from all parts of the world took part in the congress.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Abouchdid is the national secretary of this institution, and she has a delightful talk for the readers of The Woman's Voice in the coming issue.
