Christian Dior Creates the Magnet Line for the Coming Fall and Winter Fashions
Mun Hayim

Christian Dior still occupies first place in the world of fashion, and no sooner had his latest collection for the coming fall and winter appeared than the fashion houses and the great tailoring establishments in France and the world rushed to study and criticize this collection. And woman — however she may rebel against Dior and criticize his occasional extremes — soon softens and surrenders her reins to the leadership of this great artist, who draws the lines

of his great fashions from modern tendencies and from woman's psychology and temperament.

What strikes the eye in Dior's new collection of fashions:

1 — The cape has taken the place of the coat.

2 — He has created five dresses that work a fundamental revolution in woman's appearance: of wool, rising 18 centimeters above the ground, worn only at six o'clock in the evening.

3 — His hats are shaped like a "wastebasket" and fastened with a pin ending in a white pearl.

4 — The collar of the tailored suit remains classic, sometimes adorned with a thin strip of fur. The sleeves come from the back in the shape of a magnet, and the skirt takes the shape of the dress.

5 — The velvet dresses are distinguished by their fullness, and the mousseline dresses by their draping in the Egyptian manner.

The full dress follows the "princess line," with the waist above its natural line; as for the belted dresses, their line falls exactly at the waist.

A great change appears in the length of the dresses: most are short, or to the knee. In brief, in these dresses woman appears full about the hips, and from the cape hangs a scarf matching in color and fabric. The shoulders of the dress are rounded, and the skirt rises forty cm. above the ground.

The colors: black is still the king of colors — or black brought out with white; after black comes the dark gray, the color of the magnet, which holds the importance this season; and the brownish shade that is a blend of brown and green; and Dior red and magnetic blue.
