The Bridal Veil

This subject does not seem new, and perhaps you will say: the meaning and the purpose of wearing the white veil are one and the same, so why weary the mind over it?... But this veil, which the bride wears for so short a time, undoubtedly deserves some attention; I say this, first, in view of the importance of an occasion that a woman rarely meets twice...

And then because the thoughts of brides and of the mistresses of elegance are fixed to a very great extent on the wedding gown, and no room is left to consider the veil... for all the stir it makes.

And by way of amusement we shall present to you, Madam — or Miss — these novel fashions in wedding veils. On which of them has your choice fallen, or will it fall?... Bearing in mind that certain Hollywood stars have already worn them before you, to assure you that your choice will be a success.

The manner of this veil, which looks like the bathroom curtains drawn down when you stand under the shower; above it curves a wide dome made of lace of the utmost fineness.

"The Hedgehog"... but without the quills... Here the veil covers the face and is encircled by a huge halo of soft white feathers.

"The Parceled Bride"... a costume inspired by the practical spirit of the age... in it the bride looks as though she were coming back from the market laden with boxes... and so forth...

"The Wedding of Venus"... in which the veil is soft and transparent, flowing down until it touches the ground, and topped by a tall pointed cap ringed by a transparent circle... The wedding gown is required to be long and narrow.

And this is a garden on the head... Yes: the interest centers on the crown of the head, which looks like a vase crowned with all sorts of white blossoms.
