point of returning, from a trip to the United States that lasted a month.
Mrs. Moumina was in the company of her sister, Mrs. Dabbagh, and her brother, Mr. Munir Mahmasani. As for the purpose of the trip, it was rest, recreation, and the sight of the wonders of the New World... No doubt Salwa will bring back to her magazine some delightful impressions, which we already long to hear...
Welcome home!
Many have been talking of late about the grandeur of the "new Wadi Casino" in Zahle. Some say it is the most splendid pleasure garden in Lebanon; others affirm that in its beauty and the excellence of its service it rivals the world's foremost resorts.
The "Zahle Women's Renaissance" society did well to choose this casino for its great annual gala this year, on Thursday evening, August 16 last.
The gala was under the patronage and supervision of Mr. Najib Hankash, given the place this delightfully witty personality holds in the hearts of one and all. Outstanding artistic talents took part in the gala, foremost among them the famous Lebanese singer Wadih al-Safi, the darling of the stage Nadia Chamoun, and the artiste Ghada.
The gala proved a success in every way, thanks to the energy of the members of the Zahle Women's Renaissance, headed by Mrs. Muneera Shehadeh. We wish the association every success.
On the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day, Tuesday, August 14 last, Mr. Fuad Jafri, director of the Pakistani
Information Bureau, gave a grand dinner party at his home on Sadat Street — Ras Beirut — attended by the pillars of the Lebanese state, the Minister Plenipotentiary of Pakistan Mr. Hussein Nasim, and many Lebanese personalities and journalists.
Mr. Jafri, his wife, and all their children showed the utmost solicitude in looking after the
guests and welcoming them in the time-honored Eastern manner, which made the most pleasant impression among those present.
It is worth mentioning that both Mr. and Mrs. Jafri held, in the recent past, a distinguished position in journalism. We shall return to speak of this charming side of things.
