It seems, Madam, that between you and "Christian Dior" there is a feud renewed every season...

He is forever plotting tricks and conspiracies against your femininity... And yet he is the authority of your elegance, just as Paris is counted, without rival, the pilgrimage place of the fashion experts, who journey to it every season and spend hours in salons teeming with crowds, where the scent of champagne mingles with clouds of smoke... and return to their countries after setting down their observations and whatever is new in fashion.

Never has it happened that the Parisian fashion houses differed in their points of view as they have this year... Yet all are agreed that their fashions for this season should be fanciful, remote from reality... and from the selling market. And it is certain that were you to review the new fashions in the pages of the magazines, you would not choose a single one of them... but there is no harm in introducing you to them — purely by way of amusement, and nothing more.

Some of the fashions may astound you, and you will doubtless cry out: "What?... Am I to go out into the street like this?..." But the aim of the Parisiennes today is to work miracles

and to raise exclamation marks on the faces of the onlookers...
And the shock awaiting you this season lies in the length of the skirt and its narrowness... And although "Dior" and "Heim" do not approve of it, and "Castillo" admitted it into his collection merely out of courtesy — despite all this, "Balmain" makes it the most important point of his designs, and the first.
