Welcome to beautiful spring! Nature is drunk with joy! The gardens are aglow with clusters of colored blossom, and with buds dreaming of their tomorrow, and of luscious fruit!
Welcome to spring — awakener of the energy latent in man, beast, and inanimate things. In it the earth casts off its dusty winter garment and appears with a proud brow and a radiant face, breathing perfumes.
And man is part of his mother the earth; spring spurs him onward toward what is loftier and more beautiful, and he no longer has any excuse for sitting idle, scant of motion, void of blessing, dim of renown... For nature, in springtime, has a thousand clear throats that ring out with a thousand melodies and anthems, calling to gladness and activity.
And how many a weighty work awaits its coming into execution? It lacks the firm will, the guiding mind, and the unified cooperative effort, and so is met by confusion, chaos, and weakness — in thinking, in direction, and in work alike — which leads to no goal and from which no good can be hoped?
In spring, vitality is renewed, awareness awakens, hope breathes again after despair, and the foundations and principles by which we proceed come up for review, lest they be of limited benefit and scant profit...
Here is spring! The greatest gift the Creator bestows on His human children — the most magnificent of all the manifestations of creation and invention — that they may profit from its bounties, and before His omnipotence grow small and humble.
Does man realize what monotony, what tedium — nay, what despair — would overtake him if his life kept turning on a single unvarying round, with no spring to revive him and kindle in his veins enthusiasm and high spirit?
So a thousand welcomes to spring, waker of resolves, reviver of ambition and hope!!
