The Operetta "The Mikado" on the West Hall Stage

Ever since we came to know the nature of its activity, three years ago, the "Orpheus" troupe has accustomed us to expect artistic results of excellence, thanks to the efforts of the troupe's founder and patron, Mr. Afif Boulos, known in the world of art as "Alvarez." Those who saw the operetta "Wayshinsh" last year testify to his ability — it is enough that he relies in the first degree on national artistic talent, searching out vocal gifts among our young women and young men, and polishing and refining those gifts...

On April 25, 26, and 27 of this month, the "Orpheus" troupe will present the operetta "The Mikado," one of those light theatrical pieces that bring pleasure, good cheer, and laughter — of which we stand in great need in these trying days! The principal roles will be taken by Salwa Hannoush, Kamal Saad, Dr. Fouad Ashkar, Afif Boulos, Teddy Abdo, Eliana Khoury, Walgrid Boulos, and Raja Hannoush.

The operetta will be accompanied

by a small orchestra under the direction of Daniel Antoun...

It remains to mention that the operetta "The Mikado" is the work of Gilbert and Sullivan... and the direction, as always, is by Mr. Afif Boulos, whom we shall also see in one of the principal roles... Until "The Mikado," then, at the end of April...

The Model Primary School — the Lebanese Women's League

On Friday, March 1, this school held an oratory contest in both Arabic and English, in which a number of the school's boy and girl pupils took part. The enthusiasm was so keen and so outstanding that it made the judging committee's task a difficult one!

The first prize was won by the pupil Najah Sabri Hamadeh, whose subject was "A Mother's Heart"; the second prize by the pupil Iraj Zand, an Iranian, whose subject was "At Night"; and the third prize jointly by Salwa Youssef Labaydi and Majed Sabri Hamadeh...

Among the younger pupils, Rida

Shaito won. Our heartfelt congratulations to the little orators!..
