The Beirut College for Women Graduates' Dinner Dance
The dinner dance organized by the graduates of Beirut College for Women at the Bristol Hotel on Saturday evening, April 13 last, was a success... It was attended by some 400 men and ladies, and it was noticed that they were of a refined social level.
At the table of honor, with the president of the graduates, Mrs. Emma Malik, sat His Excellency the Prime Minister; the Honorable American Ambassador, Mr. Heath, and his wife; Dr. Orme, vice president of the College; and others.
Mrs. Malik offered a light, gracious word of welcome that put the guests in a merry mood, and they took to the dance floor with vigor, despite the heat that had descended upon Beirut before its season...
The folk dances — above all the Lebanese dabkeh, arranged by Mrs. Jarrar and her troupe — were the great surprise announced by the president of the party committee, Mrs. Arpine Hovnanian. A quarter of the proceeds of the party was set aside to help six students of Beirut College for Women pay their fees.
We congratulate Mrs. Malik and her companions who took part in the joint cooperative effort to make the dance a thing of such elegance, order, and success.
The guests crowded to buy everything displayed in the hall.. and not an hour had passed before the tables were bare of everything that could be eaten or used in the home.
It is fitting that we mention the orchestra of the blind, which played sweet musical pieces from time to time.
