بيان رئيسة جمعية الصليب الاحمر اللبناني

On the occasion of Red Cross Week, its central president, Mrs. de Freige, called a press conference at her home on April 15 last and distributed a statement setting forth the most important works the association has accomplished during the last twelve years: it has founded 23 dispensaries, a pharmacy, 16 regional branches, a school for nurses, a school for children's nurses, a school for volunteer aides, a school for first-aid workers, a school for air hostesses, etc...

And the Lebanese Red Cross has

treated 902,124 patients

distributed 352,512 medicines

helped 38,137 families

and provided the necessary relief and aid in the following disasters:

1 — The Palestine disaster, May 1948

2 — The Champollion incident — December 22, 1953

3 — The Makassed fire — November 1954

4 — The Tripoli flood, December 18, 1955

5 — The earthquake — March 16, 1956

The health detachments still visit the regions weekly, and continue extending their help as emergency need requires, whether medicine, food, or clothing.

Red Cross Week will open with a great festival under the patronage of His Excellency the President
