The Modern Institute's Certificate Ceremony

Mrs. Malik with the president of the Modern Institute, Miss Victoria Nasr, reviewing the finished clothes

The celebration which the Modern Institute held recently for the distribution of certificates was a delightful occasion, at which the practical and artistic women's renaissance appeared in its most splendid attire. It was held under the patronage of the wife of Dr. Charles Malik, together with a gathering of ladies, and everyone admired what they saw of the success of the winning students in the clothes on display, made by their own gentle hands. Mrs. Malik graciously presented the certificates to the winners,

and praised the great efforts the institute expends in the service of our young women.

Two Art Exhibitions

The Arts Section of the Ministry of National Education continues to devote its attention to artistic affairs and their encouragement. On May 20 last it held, at the UNESCO headquarters, an exhibition of paintings by the Yugoslav artists Niza Mladen and Grades Zdanka, and the Lebanese public thus became acquainted with a new color of modern Yugoslav art.

And on June 3 a second exhibition opened at UNESCO, under the supervision of the artists and the Arts Section of the Ministry, in which were shown works and paintings by three Syrian artists: Adham Ismail, Naim Ismail, and Marwan Kassab Bachi.

We congratulate those responsible on this energy...
