All last month there was much talk of the long visit paid to Lebanon by the film star Joan Crawford, in the company of her husband, Mr. Steele, chairman of the board of the American "Pepsi-Cola" company—and the couple were the object of attention in official and popular circles alike.
Several cocktail parties were given in honor of Joan Crawford and her husband, and they were invited to President Chamoun's table at Beiteddine, and to the American ambassador's... On this occasion, too, the director of the "Pepsi-Cola" company in Lebanon, Mr. Tewfik Assaf, and Mrs. Abida, his relative, gave at her residence in Hazmieh a grand cocktail party that brought together hundreds of guests, official and private, while the camera lenses raced after Joan wherever she turned, snapping her picture in every pose.
Whenever Sheikh Mounir Takieddine, director general of National Defense, was asked about the expected baby, he would answer at once: I want a brother for Ziad, so that he will not be left alone among Joumana, Jinan, and Zeina!
Sheikh Mounir's wish came true with the arrival of "Amer"... at the hands of Dr. Mustafa Khalidi, on August 5 last.
The lively Amer devours his milk in the Baakline manner!—and he takes after his father... not only in looks... but in delicacy of feeling and a taste for poetry.. And so his name had to be enrolled in the "circle of the magazine Shi'r"!

The primary school in Bir Hasan opens its doors for registration on September 18, between 9 and 12
o'clock every day except Saturdays and Sundays.
