The Honorable Ambassador of India Mr. Djensen, Mrs. Loreen Rihani, Mrs. Djensen, and the wife of Mr. Rafiq Maalouf
Mr. Albert Rihani and his wife gave a party in honor of Mr. Mahjoub, Foreign Minister of the Sudan, on the occasion of his visit to Lebanon, and of the men of the Sudanese embassy in the Arab countries, represented by its beloved ambassador, Mr. Jamal Mohammed Ahmed. The party brought together a company of men of politics, of the diplomatic corps, of letters, of the press, and of note. Among those present were His Excellency Dr. Charles Malik and his wife, the Honorable Indian Ambassador Mr. Djensen and his wife, Mr. Taqi al-Din al-Solh, Mr. Edouard Ghorra and his wife, and others. The banquet turned into a veritable Souk Okaz, its standard raised by the two poles of foreign policy, Mr. Mahjoub and Dr. Charles Malik. Writers and poets vied with one another in poems and literary talk that lent the poetic air
of Freike a delight recalling to memory the late lamented man of letters, Ameen Rihani.
The purpose of this party was to tighten the bonds of friendship and affection between the two friendly countries, the Sudan and Lebanon.
His Excellency Dr. Charles Malik and little May Rihani
Can it be believed that this baby girl is only twenty-four hours old? And that she weighs four kilos?
She is Eva Fuad Badr. She was born at the American Hospital on the afternoon of September 11 last, and when the glad tidings went out, joy spread among all — especially the mother, Widad, who had longed and yearned intensely for her two boys, Habib and Kamal, to have a soft, sweet sister who would gentle the boisterous air of the house!!
The newborn was given the name of her aunt, the wife of Dr. Charles Malik, and there are those who affirm that she resembles her as well... As for her ringing voice, she took that from her mother!
A hearty welcome to baby "Eva," and our congratulations to our friends Widad and Fuad Badr.
The folk gala with which the Baalbek festivals closed this summer met with a clamor of approval in all circles, official and popular alike.
And it was a gracious gesture when His Excellency the President invited the members of the popular committee to a tea party at the Beiteddine palace, in the course of which he conferred medals on Fairuz, Wadia Jarrar, Sabri al-Sharif, and Tawfiq al-Basha, in recognition of their commendable efforts.
Our heartfelt congratulations to all.
