Princess Aisha of Morocco

Princess Aisha of Morocco

There was much talk last month of the visit of Princess Aisha, daughter of His Majesty Mohammed V, King of Morocco, to Syria and Lebanon.

It was her first visit to this corner of the earth. She came at the head of the Moroccan women's delegation to the conference of the General Arab Women's Union, held September 9–15 last in Damascus.

In Damascus the Princess was given a splendid reception and abundant honors, and after the conference the Lebanese government invited her to visit Lebanon, where she was surrounded with every mark of reverence — for Princess Aisha is a singular leader, endowed with an outstanding personality and possessed of high culture.

The representative of The Woman's Voice put a few questions to her, but the Princess begged to be excused from answering them for lack of time, and promised to send her answers flying from Rome on her way back to Morocco... We shall return to speak of her again soon, God willing...

The Wedding of Adila al-Dajani and Dr. al-Labban

Dr. Mahmoud Taher al-Dajani and his wife invited guests to a reception held at the Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem, on September 26 last, on the occasion of the marriage of their daughter Adila to Dr. Abd al-Rahman al-Labban.

The sweet bride, with her radiant smile and her green eyes, is a graduate of Beirut College for Women and directress of the Women Teachers' Training College in Bethlehem. As for the bridegroom, besides his high learning, his specialization in England in mental diseases, and his direction of the hospital for nervous diseases in Bethlehem, he enjoys a rich personality, not only in medical and scientific matters but in artistic and literary matters as well.

Our congratulations to the honorable Dajani and Labban families, and our warm wishes to the bride and groom for a long life wreathed in happiness and plenty, in which they may fulfill the dreams of their two aspiring hearts.

The "Motherhood Club" of the Zahle Child Nursery Society

On Sunday evening, September 29 last, Zahle witnessed the inauguration of a women's project unique of its kind, the "Motherhood Club" of the Child Nursery Society, headed by Mrs. Emily Nasrallah. The inauguration took place under the patronage of His Excellency President Chamoun and in the presence of His Excellency the Prime Minister and hundreds of official and civil personalities.

This "Motherhood Club" is in effect a garden in the lap of the valley, ringed with trees and equipped with the most modern children's games and with attractive colored pictures, where the children pass a pleasant time under the supervision of a teacher or governess. It is intended to build a swimming pool and to plant the open spaces with green grass, which will make of this garden a playground for the little ones — and what a playground!

The Child Nursery will set aside one day a week when children may enter free of charge, so that no one unable to pay the fixed fee shall be deprived.

In the eloquent speech delivered by the president, Mrs. Emily Nasrallah, she addressed President Chamoun to this effect: Your Excellency, today you light for us the fifth candle, which is the "Nursery Club"; and three years ago your generous hand lit the first candle, which was the Society itself, then the Child Nursery House, then its magazine, which still appears through the energy of the Nursery's members!

We congratulate the Zahle Child Nursery on this club, and may we one day have its like in Beirut... how poor we are in clubs of this kind!!
