The Union of Civil Organizations Honors Miss Julia Henderson

اتحاد المنظمات الاهلية يكرم الانسة جوليا هندرسن

The headquarters of the "Union of Civil Organizations," on al-Mi'mari Street in Ras Beirut, is the gathering place of the social and non-sectarian bodies and organizations in Lebanon. During the seven years of its existence it has managed to bring together forty associations that have crossed social barriers and have all met in the service of the Lebanese citizen, resolving to cooperate among themselves to improve his condition and to build a better society.

And if we may go back to the beginning, we wish only to acknowledge the merit of certain personalities in founding the Union, among them Dr. Jamal Karam Harfush (the president), Professors Georges Skaff and Musa Sulayman, and Dr. Sami Sayqali.

At the headquarters of the Union of Civil Organizations, on the evening of December 7 last, some seventy persons gathered to make the acquaintance of Miss Julia Henderson, head of the Department of Social Affairs at the United Nations. The "Union of Civil Organizations" seized the opportunity of Miss Henderson's presence in Beirut and gave this charming party in her honor. The party displayed every mark of social refinement and was distinguished by the presence of a large group of foreigners, especially those concerned with social affairs, which made the finest impression. They offered their thanks to Dr. Jamal Karam Harfush, president of the Union, who stands at the head of this activity.
