A Medal of Honor for Emira Badriya al-Sabah
Her Highness Emira Badriya al-Sabah (as we mentioned in an article devoted to her in this issue), during her stay in Lebanon on her way back to Kuwait from a journey she had made with her husband, His Highness Sheikh Fahd, was the object of the attention of official and civil circles. Delegations of women went to visit her, representing the "Syndicate of Lebanese Women Physicians" and the association of "Lebanese University Women" — both associations presided over by Dr. Edma Abouchdid, who went with a delegation composed of Dr. Sunniya Haboub, Dr. Asia Itani, and Mrs. Edvick Shayboub to welcome Sheikha Badriya and to thank her for the surpassing care with which she surrounds the Lebanese doctors and nurses in Kuwait, in her capacity as under-secretary of the Ministry of Health and the official chiefly responsible for them. Emira Badriya assured the delegation that the Lebanese, and the other Arabs residing in Kuwait, differ in no way, in her eyes or in the eyes of the responsible officials, from their Kuwaiti brothers in treatment or in rights.
It is worth mentioning that the Emira had intended a swift departure for Kuwait, but she delayed her return at an indirect sign from the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun, who took special care of the Emira despite being occupied with the official visit being paid at that very time by His Majesty the Shah of Iran and Empress Soraya.
And so Emira Badriya remained in Beirut, and the Ministry of Health distributed invitations to a select group of the ladies of this country, to celebrate on December 24, at the Bristol Hotel, the presentation to the Emira of the Lebanese Medal of Honor, in appreciation of her generous care of the community in Kuwait...
It is a kindly gesture on the part of the Ministry of Health, and no doubt behind it is the guiding hand of the First Lady...
