To My Husband on His Birthday

Mona Massouh Takla

الى زوجي في عيده · منى مسوح تقلا

I love you as green visions
fluttering over my lashes,
shedding warmth through my spirit,
pumping my hopes full of sweet fragrance,
so that I doze upon a blissful dream!

Green visions?
Emerald is among their colors,
and waves the breeze tickles;
they hover about me tenderly,
and in them I am a warbling bird —
they hail its tormented singing
and its happy soaring...
they cry out their welcome!

I love you! Green visions!
I love you, O all my longing —
flutter over my eyes,
and dawn upon my dreams,
O sweetness of my tomorrow!
