The "Children's Happiness Charity" was founded last April, 1957, through the zeal and under the supervision of the Palestinian Women's Union, which is headed by Mrs. Wadi'a Khartabil. It is a spacious house in Ras Beirut, fitted with the necessary furnishings, to shelter the healthy children of consumptives, to care for them, and to watch over their comfort.
The ages of the children at the charity range between one month and ten years, and in this house they meet with the best of care and recreation, thanks to the charity's directress, Miss Yusra Khayyat.
May God grant the ladies of the Palestinian Women's Union success in this worthy humanitarian service.
At the table of honor sat the association's president, Mrs. Hortense Tamer, surrounded by the official personalities, while the members of the association looked after the guests and assured a genial atmosphere. We understand that the proceeds of the party exceeded twenty thousand!.. Our warmest congratulations to the active committee, and to the orphanage's directress, Miss Ramza Karaoglan.
In the middle of last April, Mrs. Heneni Tarcha, president of the Lebanese Women's League, made a short journey to Turkey, its purpose being to visit the ancient sites and to become acquainted with the aspects of progress in modern Turkey. Mrs. Tarcha was in need of recreation, and she found in the mild spring climate the best refreshment for the spirit; and she has returned to resume her activity in Beirut. Welcome home!
The Saint-Georges Hotel was thronged on the evening of Saturday, April 20 last, with hundreds of guests, at the dancing party which the committee of the Mar Elias Orphanage is accustomed to hold every year, its proceeds set aside to help the orphans toward a decent life and upbringing.
This year's party was successful in every way, gathering an elite of distinguished elements and men of government and business. The circles of dancing stretched on until just before the break of dawn, the young people in a flood of merriment and innocent exhilaration. And the lottery had its share in kindling enthusiasm among the crowds, and an eagerness to give for the sake of this great humanitarian project.
