The Queen frequents the remote villages to foster the "industrial renaissance" in the rural centers.

The Juvenile Colonies

The first thing Her Majesty Queen Frederica strove for was the protection of the orphans and the homeless by sheltering them in modern colonies built especially to meet their needs, and to guide them and teach them the handicrafts and free trades that suit the life of the countryside. Thus fifty-two colonies were established for 23,000 children. But this huge number shrank in 1950, as the need for it passed and most of the children returned to a settled life in their villages and with their families.
