A scene from one of the Circassian dances
It was a charming family party, held in the yard of the American School for Girls on the afternoon of the second of last May, gathering the principal, the teachers, and the school's physical-training teams. These teams performed several folk dances with grace and precision, then turned to competitions in running and ball-throwing; the Green team won, and received the cup from the hand of the president of the students' committee, as an encouragement to spread the fine sporting spirit among the pupils.

In the middle of this past May the scientist Dr. Salwa Nassar traveled to Baghdad in answer to an invitation from the "Nuclear Center" there. The professor of physics at the American University inspected the departments of the Nuclear Center, the medical center for the use of radioactive materials, and the industrial research center under the direction of the scientist Shith Nu'man—laboratories attached to the Iraqi Ministry of National Economy.
Dr. Salwa Nassar expressed her utmost admiration for the scientific renaissance now under way in Iraq, and she believes that the Nuclear Center in Baghdad surpasses every similar center in all the Arab capitals.
