His Excellency the President of the Republic, the president of the Red Cross, ministers, personalities, and members of the Red Cross in front of the Capitol Cinema to attend the public showing
Lebanese Red Cross Week opened on the second of last May in the hall of the Capitol Cinema, with a splendid ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic and in the presence of a great crowd from the diplomatic and civil corps.
Mrs. Ellen Rihan delivered the address of the Red Cross; then a film was shown of the society's activities: its dispensaries, its school for air hostesses, its nursing school, its first-aid teams and its women rescue workers.
And in the six following days, teams of Red Cross women members set out on the fund-raising campaign, going round the streets and the houses, and worked to distribute gifts to the sick and the
imprisoned: 1,050 parcels were given out. On the eighth of May the society celebrated the memory of Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross, and Radio Lebanon put on a special program in which Mrs. Nemat Qaranfil and the deputy Taqi al-Din al-Solh both spoke on behalf of the Red Cross...
And the Red Cross teams are still at work, vigilant and devoted, rendering first aid in the emergencies that have resulted from the month's events in Beirut and the provinces. All the units without exception take part in the work of rescue and relief, at their head the central president, Mrs. de Freige, and the vice-president, Mrs. Fayza Riad al-Solh.
May God take them by the hand, and help them to fulfill their noble humanitarian mission.
When the firstborn of Dr. Philippe Antebi made his appearance in the world at the American Hospital on the twenty-first of last April, everyone was seized with perplexity, for the name that had been prepared for the newborn was a girl's name! The lot of choosing the name fell to his American mother, 'Marilyn' — especially as he takes after her with his fair coloring — and she chose for him the double name 'David Philippe,' in the American fashion...
And David-Philippe is far handsomer than he appears in the picture, at five days old... I asked him whether he would become a 'plastic surgeon' like his father; he frowned and did not answer... And in five minutes the milk bottle was empty!
'To your health, baby Philippe!' Welcome to our world — and give our regards to your parents!
