"Mothers' Day" in Lebanon

Lebanon celebrated "Mothers' Day" on the second Sunday of May, and Radio Lebanon put on special programs, in its general broadcasts and in the "Woman's Corner," befitting the meanings of loftiness and reverence that belong to sacred motherhood.

The schools, too, devoted part of their activity to the observance of Mothers' Day. We single out among them the "Nahda" school in Achrafieh, whose proprietor is Miss Nelly Ayoub — a school that year after year has never failed to hold charming parties, inviting the pupils' mothers and showing every refinement in honoring them and in spreading the meaning of the feast among all the schoolgirls.

And the Ras Beirut Institute of Music and Drawing, whose proprietor is Mr. Sami Slaibi, gave this feast its due by holding two musical parties on the afternoon of that day. In the first his young pupils took part, and in the second the older ones, playing varied pieces on different musical instruments — giving the mothers a true idea of the progress their children have made in music; and they saw with their own eyes samples of their children's paintings hung upon the walls...

National institutes of ours such as these deserve our encouragement and our appreciation.

Sami Simaan... which of the two is taller, he or the cello?
