The Rural Revival Conference of the Union for the Relief of Juveniles

The Rural Revival Conference of the Union for the Relief of Juveniles opened this year on the 30th of last April at the Riviera Hotel, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs, and its sessions continued through the first week of May. Its aim was to establish a stronger and more fruitful cooperation between the International Union for Child Welfare and the Lebanese Union for Child Welfare, which comprises all our institutions working in the field of child welfare and the protection of juveniles.

The conference was attended by world figures from the Union for Child Welfare, who worked together with the local body headed by Dr. Jamal Harfush and Dr. André Karam, the officer responsible for the union's work. The spirit of cooperation that showed itself among the conferees had its effective part in improving conditions in the countryside and in rescuing juveniles from the woes and deprivation into which they had sunk.

The Rural Revival Conference was interspersed with parties of acquaintance and exploratory excursions to the historic sites of Lebanon, and all — the experts above all — joined in defining the needs of the rising generation in the countryside and in studying effective means of raising the standard of living there. Valuable recommendations on the subject were forwarded to all the member associations throughout the world.
