An Appeal from the Union of Secondary School Students to the Students, Girls and Boys

نداء اتحاد الطلاب الثانويين الى الطالبات والطلاب · علي جنون، انطوان تحومي، محمد كستي

In the flood of the grave and painful events through which Lebanon is passing, and in the midst of this bloody strife that has befallen the sons of a single homeland, we must always remember that the victims are our brothers and our kin, and that the blood being shed is our blood — dear, precious blood that cannot be replaced.

The political struggle whose victims today are hundreds of the sons of this wounded homeland — opposition and loyalists, members of the people and members of the army, Christians and Druze and Muslims, all equal in humanity — this bloody struggle must come to an end, and peace, love, and concord must return among all.

In the name of humanity, brotherhood, and chivalry, then, we call upon the students, girls and boys, to donate their blood to save the lives of their wounded brothers. To give blood for the victims, whatever their deeds and whatever their leanings, is a purely humane act that makes no distinction between this man and that. And the least that the students, girls and boys, can do in the face of the common calamity is to present themselves at the center of the Lebanese Red Cross at the Hôtel-Dieu, daily, before noon and after it, to register their names, in readiness to earn the noblest and most honorable humane reward that man has known on the face of the earth, namely: 'saving the lives of others.'

And the Union of Secondary School Students in Lebanon can only beseech God, the Most High, the Almighty, to keep Lebanon in His care and to restore peace and harmony to its secure regions; He is All-Hearing, Answering.
