The Leader of the Women's Renaissance in the Arab East Donates a Thousand Pounds to the Palestine Fund

زعيمة النهضة النسائية بالشرق العربي تتبرع بألف جنيه لصندوق فلسطين

Cairo — Her Ladyship the venerable Mrs. Huda Hanim Shaarawi broadcast the following appeal:

"Today Egypt is arrayed in her most splendid festive attire in celebration of the arrival of the great monarch of the Hejaz, and the members of the Egyptian nation vie with one another in showing their feelings toward His Majesty, sharing their King's sentiment toward his great guest and following the example of their government in the kinds of welcome and forms of honor it is offering — the raising of decorations and the feeding of the poor. What more, then, might we do to honor His Majesty further and bring joy to his great heart?

"I believe that the thing dearest to him is to strengthen his hand in his honorable stands in defense of Palestine against Zionist immigration and in defense of her usurped right; and the surest way to that is to help the Arabs of Palestine to purchase their remaining lands.

"O my dear compatriots, men and women, help your brothers, each according to his means, be it only with a few piasters.

"O sons of Arabism in the farthest and nearest parts of the earth, contribute to the financing of the Nation's Fund, that it may resist the sweeping tide of immigration before it is too late; and show those who champion falsehood against right, relying on their arrogance and their brute strength, that the Arabs are able to stand as one bloc in the face of this aggression and repel the usurper's scheming.

"And may the coming of King Abdulaziz be a star of good fortune for wounded Palestine."

The venerable lady accompanied this appeal of hers with a money order for the sum of one thousand pounds, opening the subscription for the Fund of the Palestinian Nation.

It is like scattered dust outside our homelands.

I do not know, my brothers, in what language to address you so as to stir the wellsprings of feeling within you, that you may return to your country and help her and stand by her.

Love your country as I love her, for love, when gathered together, lifts heavy burdens and brings forth prosperity. I would have the sons of my country be second to none of the sons of the whole world in giving and in sacrifice; and the sacrifice our country asks of us is nothing more than a journey through her regions, for which health, vigor, and rest of soul and body repay us.

So come, my brothers, let us unite our feelings and close our ranks and return to our country, to our homelands, for she is our mother, and no dutiful son with dignity in his soul and feeling in his breast will ever fail his mother.
