The Kindergarten Party of the Lebanese Women's League
This year has been distinguished by the abundance of activity shown by our women's institutions in the cause of the care of the child. Our memory of the Children's Exhibition at West Hall, of the party of the "Children's House" attached to the Islamic Makassed in Beirut, of the party of the "Child Welfare Committee" attached to the Arab Women's Union, and of others besides, is not far behind us. How we wished that The Woman's Voice had room to describe all these parties! We therefore confine ourselves to describing the party given by the "Kindergarten of the Lebanese Women's League," on the afternoons of Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, 1946. The party was attended by an elite of cultivated women and men, as well as by most of the members of the Lebanese government, among whom we mention His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Saadi Munla, and His Excellency the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Saeb Salam.
The party was opened by the directress of the kindergarten, Mrs. Edvick Jureidini Shayboub, with a most gracious address, which she concluded by thanking the men of the government and those present for their encouragement of the kindergarten, whether by their attendance at the party or by their effective contribution to the movement for the care of children.
Then the program followed, and it proved of such splendor and delight as to deserve every appreciation and admiration: from the children's parade, to songs in Arabic, English, and French, to dancing, to music — all of it in exquisite arrangement and refined taste.
During the intermission, His Excellency the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Saeb Salam, came up to the stage and announced, on behalf of His Excellency the Prime Minister, that the government had donated to the Lebanese Women's League five thousand Lebanese lira, together with a plot of land for the building of a kindergarten. His Excellency said that he would not have announced this to anyone had not Mrs. Heneni Tarcha, president of the League, insisted upon it. His Excellency's words were encouraging in the extreme; may they be a happy beginning of the government's concern for the "silent" constructive projects.
The reader will see some of the pictures which our photographer, "Photo Surprise," took of this splendid party.
