هناك · صلاح لبكي

Mr. Labaki has favored "The Woman's Voice" with this piece of verse, which missed being published in "The Moon's Swing."

I pass across this life
as darkness passes over one in pain;
how strange, this long forbearance,
when the season of youth is still at its dawn.

I say to my soul in the time of trials:
I am one on whom they have thronged in my grief;
if you would desire, then seek
from life no quest but the far-off.
Dearer to me, and the sweetest fortune,
that my body sink away into its tomb
and fill my eyes with darknesses
that are silence — or with its whisper.
There you shall meet the warmth of eternity,
and my heart the cool of blissful extinction,
and I shall sip the scent of the kindly earth.
