The Gracious Visit

The Woman's Voice

الزيارة الكريمة · صوت المرأة

A great visitor from Syria set foot on Lebanese soil a few days past. And behold, all Lebanon, coast and mountain, welcomed him with open arms, from the black of the eye and the kernel of the heart.

It is the right of "The Woman's Voice" to record this momentous event; for on the day Damascus comes down to Beirut, or Beirut goes up to Damascus, in such affectionate and sincere brotherhood, something happens which we count as a matter of great moment. That is because the two countries — twins in the Arab family in the orbit of life and history — are the target of the nets cast, between fair weather and storm, by skillful fishers in troubled waters.

O great one who has visited us...

Lebanon will grasp, from this gracious visit of yours, the meaning it enfolds, just as it will keep the symbol it carries. And those fishermen, God willing, will find in their nets, on the day they gather them in, nothing but troubled water.
