Sun Baths and What to Wear for Them

حمامات الشمس وثيابها

Public interest in the world of woman in sun baths grows year by year. And we see the fashion houses neglecting nothing of this fertile, lucrative, abundant source: they outdo themselves in ingenuity in presenting these fashions in their most splendid and most elegant guises, and take care to make the spirit of these clothes harmonize with the spirit of this age.

Here they are this summer, going to great lengths to bring out the meanings of femininity in woman; and these clothes are so very abbreviated that a woman is all but naked! The clothes for sun and innocent play this season have never at any time been as short and as scanty as they are now... This year woman wishes to expose the largest possible part of her body to the direct rays of the sun; and if she could, she would strip off even this covering and leave her naked body to fry in the heat of the scorching sun, until it is coated with a gleaming coppery layer that is now considered the height of beauty!

That is in other people's countries. Here — thank God — matters have not reached this degree of extremism, for the mentality prevailing in our country inclines toward an appearance of modesty; and we endorse this moderate mentality, even on the seashore!
