Women of Lebanon!

Fouad Suleiman

ايتها اللبنانيات · فؤاد سليمان

... In the name of the crushed orphans —

cold and hunger gnaw at them, and their fathers have fallen as victims on the fields of heroism...

In the name of the crushed widows, daughters of your country, the remains of whose men have been scattered in every corner of Palestine.

In the name of those driven from their homes, while the malicious Zionist serpent has dug its lair in their gardens,

and spat its venom into the veins of the sacred soil.

... In the name of the sister who has lost her father and her brother and her sister and her mother —

so let us be a mother to her, and a father, a brother, and a sister...

In the name of this great soil.

The soil of our land, kneaded with the blood of the martyrs among our sons — the soil that has made this land one land for us all...

In the name of the sisterhood that binds you to this sacred portion of your sisters —

in the name of right, O women of Lebanon... the right that knows no face of falsehood — “The Woman's Voice” addresses this appeal to you...

... The specter of the bitter, cruel winter is creeping slowly on; and in our plains, our valleys, and our mountains, in our villages and in our cities, there live brothers of ours, and neighbors — beloved guests.

It was not poverty that drove them wandering to us, nor alms,

but the national calamity, which has gathered us all together, and which has struck us all to the core...

Guests who lack warmth, who lack food, who lack a place to shelter in... So let the tenderness of the Lebanese woman be warmth for them, and let her heart be a refuge for them.

The Lebanese woman is worthy of noble deeds, and none is worthier than the Lebanese woman to give of herself and of her tenderness in the cause of right.

O women of Lebanon...

No guest child of beloved Palestine shall go unclothed,

nor shall he go hungry,

nor shall a mother's eye be cast down over one she loves on Lebanese soil...

O women of Lebanon...

From this moment... from this moment... and God be with you...
