I Shall Return

Juhayna Tarabulsi

سأعود · جهينة طرابلسي

There, in the farthest reaches of the blue sky,
beyond those pure white clouds,
God made a magical place of wondrous charm, for which the souls of the wretched and the sorrowful yearn.
So to that far, happy place I shall return!...

There, beyond the translucent clouds,
the lights sparkle from a radiant, resplendent star,
and beyond that ever-glowing atom
God created an enchanting world which the bewildered souls seek, that they may be at peace.
So to that place of everlasting radiance I shall return!...

There, beyond the eternal galaxy,
the distances collapse and the dimensions perish;
and he for whom it is written to cross them
finds a wondrous paradise which God fashioned for His chosen ones, the righteous and the pure.
So to that paradise of everlasting delights and joys I shall return!

There, beyond the marvelous nebulae,
the visions dance and the imaginings come alive,
and in those virgin places the maidens of sweet hopes frolic.
So to that captivating homeland, which Providence has granted to the weary,
I shall return!...

There, where thought cannot reach,
and to the place where God has prepared for His dear ones
what has never crossed a mind and what no pen has set down,
my spirit yearns, my soul longs, and all my being desires.
And to it, my beloved ones, I shall soon return.
