• On the eleventh of December, the UNESCO conference concluded the work of its third session in Beirut, its fourth session to be held in Rome in 1949.

• Literary circles held a great celebration for the great poet Elia Abu Madi on his return to Lebanon, on account of the wide renown this poet enjoys in the world of poetry.
The Woman's Voice had the pleasure of meeting this poet at a family gathering at the home of Mr. Albert Rijani, which brought together the spiritual teacher Mikhail Naimy, the poet Abu Madi, the musician Anis Fuleihan, the enchanting singer Fadwa Kurban, possessor of the mellow voice, and a number of this country's men and women of letters.

• Women's circles in Beirut fêted the Indian leader Mrs. Kamala Devi, India's delegate and president of the All India Women's Conference.
The president of the Child Welfare Society in Tripoli, Mrs. Aliyya Shawqi, invited the Indian leader to visit al-Fayha. Receiving her were Mrs. Shawqi and the members of the society, together with Mrs. Iqbal Zouk, president of the Charitable Society and of the branch of the Lebanese Red Cross, and Mrs. Minerva Gharib, vice-president of the Ladies' Renaissance Society.

• The ladies and young ladies of Lebanon continue to send their offerings to the Palestinian guests through our great weekly colleague Kull Shay'.

• In an interview given by Mrs. Nassif — an Arab-American lady — to the newspaper Kull Shay', she said, speaking of the young men of Lebanon: "I found in them an evident haughtiness and a love of ostentation; they want to make philosophy their profession. They are entirely different from the Turkish youth, who work from their earliest years." Speaking of the emigrants, Mrs. Nassif said: "Few are the emigrants who deny their Lebanese-Syrian origin; all of them hold fast to the customs and traditions of these lands, and they eat Eastern food four or five days a week."
This Mrs. Nassif is Syrian by birth, from Tell Kalakh; she married a Lebanese emigrant, Mr. Yaacoub Nassif.

• Scientific circles took interest in the important discovery achieved by the doctor-engineer Jacques Nasr, a discovery that has worked an economic revolution in the world of building; the French Ministry of Industry has registered it in his name as a patent. Mr. Nasr is one of the brilliant scientific figures for whom a great future is expected in the world of engineering. Lebanon is ever proud of its gifted sons, such as Dr. Jacques Nasr.

• Literary circles were gladdened by the return to the homeland of the great man of letters Mr. Tawfiq Yusuf Awwad and his esteemed wife, from Argentina, where Mr. Awwad represented among the Lebanese emigrants the mountain-born Lebanese spirit, pure and deep of soundings.
It is ever an honor for Lebanon that its message be carried to the world by a young man like Tawfiq Awwad, in whose soul are embodied the forces of good in Lebanese youth.
The Woman's Voice welcomes this great man of letters and his lady wife.

• Women's circles regretted the indisposition that befell the president of the Lebanese Arab Women's Federation, Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura; Miss Kaddoura underwent an operation at the American University Hospital, which met with complete success.
Throughout her stay at the American hospital she was the object of the concern of women's public opinion, which bears Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura every respect and reverence.
The Woman's Voice, in congratulating the respected Miss on her recovery, hopes she will remain in good health to complete her mission to the Lebanese woman.

• There departed from us for Argentina the esteemed Mrs. Asma Haidar, wife of His Grace the Exarch Gabriel Haidar, with her son Mr. Joseph Haidar and his family, and Mrs. Helene Haidar Makhoul and her husband Mr. Semaan, aboard one of the airplanes of the "Siza" company.
We wish them all a blessed journey and a speedy return to the homeland's precincts.
Mrs. Haidar has promised us that she will be a faithful messenger of the message of The Woman's Voice among the Lebanese community there.
