Lesson Five
The Graduated Henna and the Shampoo

These two have been prepared especially to leave strong reflected tints in the hair, and they are excellent for invigorating weak roots; they are also stronger than the ordinary shampoo used for cleansing.
This shampoo is used in one of the two following ways:

The first way: Mix the contents of the shampoo packet and the graduated henna packet, then add to them gradually a quarter liter of warm water, stirring constantly... Wet your hair well and apply half the shampoo mixture to it, then wash it with plenty of warm water; after that, rub in what remains of the mixture and leave it on your hair for about five minutes, then wash it well with warm water and dry it without using the drying machine.

The second way: Add hot (not boiling) water gradually to the contents of the graduated henna packet, stirring constantly so that it becomes a thick paste; then divide your hair into strands and coat the roots of the hair with the paste by means of (an old toothbrush, for example), and cover your head with an old towel so as to keep in the warmth, leaving the paste on for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile add, gradually, a quarter liter of warm water to the contents of the shampoo packet, stirring constantly so that it becomes a sticky paste... When the appointed time is up, remove the towel and wash the henna out of your hair, first with warm water, then with half the shampoo mixture; after that wash your hair with warm water, then rub it with what remains of the shampoo.. and finally wash it with plenty of warm water and let it dry without using the drying machine.

The first way is enough to make the color of the hair gleam; as for the second, its effect is stronger if the hair is dull and faded in color.
