"The Woman's Voice" Asks You... ("The Woman's Voice" in the Ladies' Opinion)

Sophie Baghazi Rassam

«صوت المرأة» تسألُك... («صوت المرأة» في رأي السيدات) · صوفي بغازي رسام

Dear reader,

In reply to the questions this magazine put in the two previous issues, "The Woman's Voice" has received six letters from three ladies and three young ladies. They are: Mrs. Sophie Baghazi Rassam in Mosul; Miss Henriette Siksek in Beirut; Mrs. Asma al-Qusus in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; Mrs. Jihan Gazawi Aony in Tripoli; Miss Kafia Baroudi in Tripoli; and Miss A. Abi Rafi' in Lebanon. "The Woman's Voice" is proud that it has been able to draw these opinions from some of its readers, for "The Woman's Voice" had feared its questions would remain without any answer — so, our thanks. Here we publish a summary of the opinion of Mrs. Sophie Baghazi Rassam:

• She reads all the sections of the magazine and takes special interest in the reportages, the society news, and certain articles.

• She thinks the magazine needs to free itself from restraints, so that its voice may go forth unfettered by the bonds of accommodation and conformity, and liberated from the sway of certain traditions.

• She prefers to read the women of letters who write boldly and give their opinions with conviction and with warmth.. Rose Ghorayeb — Asma Tubi.

• She has no particular names to propose.

• The magazine's printing and arrangement have beauty and elegance.

• She proposes attention to translation and adaptation, and proposes as well the addition of a special page conveying what the writers and scholars concerned with the rearing of the new generation are writing, for such studies raise the magazine's level.

• She relishes every kind of light poetry that is far from affectation; among her wishes is to remain in touch with the production of the poets of the Mahjar, and to become acquainted with new colors of Lebanese zajal.

• In her opinion, the sections "Intellectual Activity," "Woman in the World," and "A Love Letter" show high taste and good selection; and she proposes, in the "Intellectual Activity" section, that we publish fewer names and more of the lectures..

She hopes the "Woman in the World" section will be enlarged, for it is a means of carrying the reader to the corners of the world. As for "A Love Letter" — an excellent letter indeed, she says.

She observes that the story page is still in its stage of growth and development, and that it is necessary.

And Mrs. Sophie Baghazi Rassam proposes, finally, that we devote the last pages to the story and the first to society news..

In the coming issue: the opinion of Mrs. Jihan Gazawi Aony.
