The Talk of the Month

.. A memory dear to the hearts of all the Lebanese: the day they watched the caravans of the invaders take to the sea, after they had crouched upon their chests for several long centuries, during which their land was laid waste, their sanctities profaned, their dignities trampled, and the whip plied upon the necks of free men.

... The Evacuation ... a memory for whose sake the Lebanese lived for generations; it was a hope dear to our hearts ... we wished it might come true ... and at last this hope did come true, and for its sake the Lebanese gave much blood.

No one will forget what the youth of Lebanon gave for the sake of this day ...

But what have we done since?

What have we done, now that our independence is complete?

What have we done, now that we have become masters of ourselves?

Can we say that we are worthy of this memory?

Yes, the Western armies have evacuated our land, but they have left us the bands of dissolution, fear, sectarianism, cowardice, shrinking, hunger, poverty, and disease .. and selfishness ...

From this day on we must work for the evacuation of these odious bands, so that the whole of our right may be completed, and so that we may be worthy of the day of the Evacuation.
