The Sports Festival at the Makassed College for Girls

Physical training occupies the loftiest place in the wide-ranging programs of the College for Girls; it is the first aim the College pursues in refining the girls' spirits and exercising their bodies. That is why one finds it always concerned with holding matches and sports festivals

on its own field, in support of that beautiful art which has never ceased to be an honest proof of the degree of progress of the modern Lebanese renaissance. We felt this at the party — or rather the festival — which the College held yesterday: the games, the exercises, and the rhythmic dances were distinctive in their forms and figures, inviting admiration for their inventiveness and their coordination, and for the harmony of the gay costumes, which represented the Gypsy, the Hungarian, and the Japanese dances, and other things besides, sprung from the taste of the schoolmistresses who trained this beautiful display.
