Death of Mrs. Caroline El-Khoury, Mother of the President of the Republic

وفاة السيدة كارولين الخوري والدة رئيس الجمهورية

★ In the middle of last month Lebanon lost a venerable lady whose life was rich in noble deeds and generous works: the late Caroline, widow of the late Sheikh Khalil El-Khoury, and mother of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Sheikh Beshara El-Khouri, and of his distinguished brothers.

A solemn funeral was held for her, in which the pillars of the Government, the deputies, the men of the diplomatic corps, and vast crowds from the capital and from all the regions of Lebanon took part. The funeral service was held under the presidency of His Beatitude the Maronite Patriarch, in the presence of a company of prelates and men of the clergy. Eulogies for the departed were delivered by Patriarch Arida and Archbishop Moubarak.

The Lebanese Women's League offers to His Excellency the President, Sheikh Beshara El-Khouri, its dutiful condolences on the loss of the venerable mother who gave Lebanon its wise leader.
